1. Can I have a bonfire or burn leaves, tree branches, or brush?

Yes and no. The Beavercreek Township Fire Department (BTFD) enforces the Ohio Fire Code's (OFC) Open Burn Guidelines, which regulate what can and cannot be burned in the City of Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township. The BTFD has put together the following summary of Ohio's Open Burn Guidelines:

• Ceremonial fires (bonfires) are permitted. Examples of ceremonial fires are flag decommissioning, Boy Scout ceremonies, etc. These fires may be a maximum of 5 feet in diameter and a maximum of 5 feet in height and can only burn for a maximum of 3 hours. This type of fire does require a permit from the fire department.
• Recreational fires (cook-outs) are permitted in both the City of Beavercreek and Beavercreek Township. Recreational fires cannot be larger than 3 feet in diameter and a maximum of 2 feet in height and can only burn for a maximum of 3 hours. This type of fire does not require a permit.

2. My fire hydrant needs painted, who is responsible for the fire hydrants?

The fire hydrants are maintained by the Greene County Sanitary Engineering Department. Please call them for any hydrant issues at 937-562-7450.

3. Can I burn yard waste like grass, tree limbs, or garbage?

Never burn:

• Asphalt shingles
• Construction waste
• Dead animals
• Furniture
• Garbage
• Plastic
• Tires
• Yard waste (grass, tree limbs, leaves, etc.)

4. Where can I dispose or recycle an old fire extinguisher?

Any fire protection service company can take your old fire extinguisher from you. If you need an empty one filled, they can also help you with that.  Greene County Environmental Services will also accept old or damaged fire extinguishers from you during their recycling hours only. Please stop by their welcome center to let them know what you have to dispose of.

5. Who do I contact if I want to start an open burn?

6. Does the fire department solicit for donations by phone or mail?

No, we do not. If someone calls you and claims to be with the fire department and then asks for a donation, do not give them your personal information.  We also do not send post cards or any other mail asking for donations.  Be aware of these kinds of solicitations.  They most likely are scams.
